What will Digital Transformation look like in 2018?
Digital transformation has been a buzzword in the business world for several years now. With the advent of the IoT (Internet of Things) and ever-increasing sophistication of smart technology, accelerated by the capabilities enabled by the cloud and edge computing, digital transformation in both the home and business is no longer a choice, but an inevitable change.
Businesses that do not embrace digital transformation will inevitably be left behind.
But, to truly profit from the powers of ever-advancing tech (as many businesses have), a well thought out strategy is required. And, that’s where Digital Transformation specialists, from Heads of Digital Transformation, to Group Digital Strategy Directors, come into their own.
In 2018, there is little doubt that IoT will be one of the key areas of focus for Digital Transformation specialists. There are more than 8.4 billion connected devices on the internet today, up more than 30% in just one year (Gartner). 2018 will be the year that we see the shift from a focus on the number of IoT devices themselves, but how businesses use the data collected from these smart devices to their benefit, with advanced analytics. This is arguably why there has been a rush to build out 5G networks, so that companies can create insights from this data in almost real-time (Information Age).
Are you a digital transformation specialist? If so, we’d love to hear from you. What trends do you anticipate being your key priorities this year?
