Zac is a seasoned recruiter, with nearly 10 years’ experience working in the Recruitment sector. As the first trainee that Reqiva Director’s Antony Redmond and Jonathan Spragg hired in 2011, Zac is the longest serving Reqiva employee to date and is re-joining the business after a 2-year stint in Singapore.

Antony Redmond, Sales Director at Reqiva said, “It’s amazing to have Zac re-join the business as a Regional Sales Manager. He’ll be working alongside myself, Jonathan and Regional Sales Managers John Chapman and Nick Goodwin and it’ll be great to have his personality and experience adding another fantastic dynamic to the team. He’ll not only undoubtedly add value to the business internally, but also help us to continue to deliver quality service to our clients and grow out the already successful Technology division to service more emerging tech markets.”

We sat down with Zac to find out about his key successes over his career so far and why he’s excited to be returning to Reqiva.

So, to start from the beginning, can you give a quick overview of how you got into Recruitment?

My avenue into recruitment (as with many people) was by chance. I finished University and went into my first job as a door to door salesman – it was terrible! Luckily, I then started to work in recruitment for an executive search firm, as a researcher. I quickly knew that I wanted to be involved in the full recruitment lifestyle, so trained as a 360 consultant and stayed there for a year. I then relocated and after re-evaluating, vowed I wouldn’t stay in Recruitment as some of the practices and people I’d encountered along the way didn’t really align with my own values and goals. But, then via recommendation I met with Antony and Jonathan and the Reqiva values and vision really resonated with me and the rest is history! I joined Reqiva in early 2011, worked my way from Consultant, to Senior to Team Lead and then departed after 6 years to relocate to Singapore with my wife to support her PHD studies.

What have you been up to in Singapore?

I was very fortunate to find a great opportunity with another recruitment company, Spencer Ogden, in Singapore. Over the two years there I grew out a Technology division pretty much from scratch, to a very successful 10-person division. I had the opportunity to work with some great people and excellent recruiters so it was a wonderful experience – I’m now looking forward to putting everything I have learned out there into practice with my new role.

What drove you back to Reqiva?

The reasons that attracted me to Reqiva originally and kept me here for so long still apply. I share the values that Antony and Jonathan hold – I have a lot of belief in the business and believe that Reqiva exemplifies how recruitment should be done in the modern technology market. I’m really looking forward to help contribute in taking the business to the next level and being part of its long-term success.

What changes have you seen in the recruitment sector over your career so far?

To be completely honest, remarkably few. There has been competition coming from automated job boards and AI offerings, but the power of having a knowledgeable and effective recruiter to aid in the growth of a client’s business is as important as it always has been.

What would you describe as your greatest successes in your career?

In my prior time at Reqiva, I did a lot of work with very young start-ups – I worked with them on a very consultative basis, to advise and support them with the best ways to grow their teams and technologies to use in terms of their markets. To feel as though you’ve been part of the success of these businesses has been very rewarding. I’ve also hugely enjoyed (and look forward to continuing) to develop individuals. Taking people from Trainee or Junior Consultant level and getting them up to a position where they are achieving professional goals, but also earning enough money to fulfill personal dreams is rewarding.

And finally, now you’re back at Reqiva, what do you hope to achieve in your next 12-24 months here?

I’m excited to head up a sales division – I think I’ll be able to add a bit of healthy competition to the office between teams. Then over the next couple of years I’m aiming to just further develop our market specialisations, particularly within ever-emerging niche tech markets – there are so many opportunities out there and so many new clients I look forward to my team working with!
