Head of Hardware | FPGA

A specialised technology client is seeking a skilled and hands-on Head of Hardware to lead its FPGA and digital design engineering team. This role encompasses overseeing all facets of hardware design while driving innovation and advancements in FPGA platforms, ensuring the company maintains its technological advantage.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the hardware engineering team by providing technical mentorship and strategic direction.
  • Oversee the design and deployment of state-of-the-art FPGA platforms tailored for low-latency trading systems.
  • Collaborate closely with other team leads and the Director of Engineering to align hardware initiatives with overall business objectives.
  • Define and implement next-generation hardware architectures, ensuring optimal system performance and scalability.
  • Manage the timely delivery of hardware components, adhering to priorities and schedules set in coordination with the Director of Engineering.
  • Oversee the validation and testing of FPGA and digital designs, ensuring reliability and adherence to performance standards.
  • Continuously assess and integrate emerging technologies to uphold the company’s competitive edge.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in Electronics Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field. • 10+ years of experience in FPGA design, digital logic, and low-latency system development.
  • Proven expertise in digital design and verification, including: o Micro-architecture definition, RTL coding, and test bench creation. o Simulation, synthesis, Place & Route, timing analysis, and hardware emulation.
  • Proficiency in System Verilog and Xilinx FPGA design tools.
  • Working knowledge of C++, Rust, and Python.
  • Familiarity with automation tools like Jenkins.
  • Demonstrated success in leading and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Strong understanding of high-performance computing, low-latency systems, and hardware-software integration.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capability to manage complex technical challenges.
Compensation: The position offers a unique and generous compensation package, including merit-based bonuses.

Location: The role is based in our clients Cambridge office and requires someone to be there 3 days per week. The successful candidate will be supporting the deployment of next-generation trading infrastructure to over 150 global markets.
