Technical Lead – Flight Simulation Software Engineer  | AV

Location: Brisbane, QLD and Sunshine Coast, Australia

We are working with an innovative Autonomous Vehicles (AV)  business for Aerospace who are seeking a talented and experienced Tech Lead in Flight Simulation to lead the development of high-fidelity simulation platforms for testing and validating flight control systems and autonomous flight algorithms.

You will work in a dynamic environment, collaborating with experts in aerospace engineering, robotics, and control systems to advance the accuracy and performance of flight simulations.

Experience and Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in flight simulation, flight control systems, or related fields, with a background in UAVs, aerospace engineering, or robotics.
  • Expertise in flight dynamics, aerodynamics modelling, and simulation software (e.g., X-Plane, MATLAB/Simulink, or custom flight simulation environments).
  • Strong programming experience in Rust and/or C++, with additional experience in Python or other relevant languages for the development and customization of flight simulation software.
  • Experience with flight control systems, sensor fusion, and the integration of simulation tools with HITL (Hardware in the Loop) systems.
  • Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams and driving the direction for simulation and testing projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace Engineering, Robotics, or a related field. Advanced degrees (MSc, PhD) are a plus.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the development and enhancement of high-fidelity flight simulation platforms for testing and validating flight control systems and autonomous flight algorithms.
  • Oversee the creation of realistic flight dynamics models and their integration with sensor systems such as IMUs, GPS, and LiDAR.
  • Collaborate with systems engineers and control experts to ensure accurate modeling of autonomous flight systems, including mission planning, control, and navigation.
  • Direct the integration of flight simulation tools with HITL systems for real-time testing and validation.
  • Develop and maintain simulation environments supporting both test and mission planning for a variety of aircraft platforms.
  • Manage the technical roadmap for flight simulation systems, incorporating emerging technologies and methodologies.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance team environment.
