We’re seeking a Principal Engineer who is a specialist in the Fibre Optical Gyroscope Engineering space (FOG). We are looking for someone with proven experience across the full product lifecycle, from R&D and prototyping to commercialisation and scaled manufacturing of Fibre Optic Gyroscopes (FOGs). We are looking for someone with proven experience across the full product lifecycle, from R&D and prototyping to commercialisation and scaled manufacturing of Fibre Optic Gyroscopes (FOGs). Responsibilities:
- Lead design and development of FOG and related systems for performance, reliability, and production readiness.
- Develop and refine manufacturing processes focused on scalability and high-volume output.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (software, hardware, production, R&D) to deliver integrated solutions.
- Analyse test data, troubleshoot performance issues, and implement enhancements.
- Stay ahead of innovation in FOG tech, photonics, and manufacturing techniques.
- Develop testing and coil process capabilities: fibre optic coil testing, stress conditioning, tooling, SPC metrics.
- Extensive, hands-on experience designing, developing, and manufacturing FOG units ideally at scale.
- Ability to optimize performance, reliability, manufacturability (tooling, DFM, SPC).
- Strong domain knowledge in inertial systems, photonics, or quantum sensing.
- Advanced education (Bachelor’s/Master’s in Physics, Optics, Electrical Engineering—PhD preferred, but not essential)
- Background in Aerospace, Defence, Navigation, Robotics, or Subsea applications
- Location: U.S. or UK or Australia
