The story of Jonathan Spragg and why Reqiva is so unique
Jon is somewhat of an anomaly – not because of his continuing love for the American singer songwriter and actor Justin Timberlake, or his weird and wonderful lunchtime superfood concoctions – but because unlike many recruitment business owners, he is still as prevalent in his role as a tech recruiter today as he was when he first started in the industry over two decades ago! There are no ivory towers or glass-walled executive office suites here – Jon is on the sales floor, working hands-on, day-to-day alongside the rest of the team, building out his market, engaging with technology professionals and leaders across the UK and Europe, and continuously expanding his knowledge and intricate understanding of the ever-changing tech landscape.
But what has kept him so inspired and committed to the sector for all these years and what does he believe has enabled Reqiva to stand the test of time in this competitive market?
Well, we thought we’d ask him!
Q. What’s kept you in the industry so long?
“To be honest, I absolutely love it and I have done from the very start of my career. For me, it is the pace of change it offers and the constant evolution of the industry particularly across the emerging tech landscape. Working with such innovative businesses at the cutting edge of technology who are building and developing solutions that in some instances defy belief, amazes me and keeps me engaged on a daily basis. It is also the people that I encounter in my role day-to-day, from my own incredible team who I see working their socks off with determination and integrity, to the tech professionals and senior leaders that I partner with whether to help them grow their own teams or to support them on their career journey. It is inspiring and rewarding in equal measure and I couldn’t think of anything I’d rather be doing – well, apart from sitting on a beach somewhere, basking in the sun, drinking a nice cold beer, but sand is over-rated sometimes!”
Q. What has made Reqiva such a success where many competitor businesses have fallen by the wayside over the years?
“For me I think it is our ability to adapt to change. As a privately run boutique consultancy we can move with ease to the changing shifts and demands in the market. We are able to adjust our offering based on the needs of each individual and business. We can genuinely embed ourselves in the markets in which we operate working as true specialists. And we are able to stay absolutely on point in terms of our service standards, which can so often get diluted with larger, more corporate consultancies. Don’t get me wrong, it has not all be plain sailing and we have certainly made mistakes along the way, but I’m proud to say we have always learnt from these - they have actually made us who we are today - and I can hand on heart say we are in a stronger position than we have ever been.”
Well, it certainly is exciting times ahead for Reqiva and we can’t wait to see what the next few years has in store!
